The Starving Artist At Day's in Ocean Grove

We recently spent the weekend with our family and friends (group of 20). Went there on a Monday and spoke to the gentleman who takes info for seating; granted, a large group takes time to sit and wait. When I told him a group of 20 his demeanor changed. He said it was an "inconvenience" to the restaurant for seating. Even after having said that, we still waited as we heard great reviews on food and we were willing to be seated separately. But because he could not give us a wait time and his attention was stretched, not taking into account that unnecessary comment, we simply told him we are not able to wait and we did not want to "inconvenience" him. His response? "Okay" and smiled (a smile of relief). Never knew a large group would be in "inconvenience". Not sure if he was the manager or what, but his manager should be aware that such employee is making these statements to a well known location. POOR EMPLOYEE SELECTION!!!

Very good food at very reasonable prices. Inside and lovely quaint outside seating. Sometimes you will even catch a theatrical event!!! Super busy in the summer but a place that I truly recommend for food, atmosphere and prices!!!!

I've been here a few times, each time gets better and better. I usually go for breakfast. Never disappointed.

Great vibe. Slow service, bit they warn you ahead of time. Sloppy Joe with extra dressing is LEGIT

i was a first timer at this place. They are really good at handling the COVID19 situation we are in. Lots of seats available. Good distancing. The food is phenomenal. I'd recommend a reservation.

No one is going to be blown away by anything revolutionary here but every time I'm in town I stop by. This place is solid which is always a good thing. I must like it if I walk over from Asbury Park.

The owner greeted us and was super friendly. I loved the paper and crayons on the tables to doodle with while waiting. My ham, cheese, pepper and onion omelet was delicious. Good coffee. The only downer was the waitress was kind of curt, and not super engaging.

The staffis friendly and helpful. We went for lunch. I had roast beef and cheddar with horseradish wrap. Recommended. Good atmosphere even if a bit noisy and busy.

Dave is one of the finest entrepreneurs on the Jersey Shore!The ice cream is tops and the place is clean, efficiently run, and staffed with courteous associates. I would be hard pressed to find a better venue than Day's Ice Cream and The Starving Artist in Ocean Grove, NJ!

The best food you can ever taste. I love this place. It’s definitely the best restaurant I ever went to. The service is so good and friendly and very sufficient! The food is always so fresh and everything is so excellent here.

We spent a long weekend in the area, and we came three times to this place. The food was delicious and the service was great. Prices are very good too. I will come back when everything is back to normal. You should try it.

Can’t review the food because we never actually got to sit down & order. Wanted breakfast & the place was 1/2 empty but we were told there was a 45 minute wait time. I guess they were short on servers. We will try again another day. Ended up going around the corner to the Pathway Market on Pilgrim Pathway to get breakfast sandwiches that were quite tasty. They also had tables outside to sit & eat.

This was such a lovely place to have breakfast. We sat on the outside porch overlooking the gardens. I had the special of the day - banana coconut pancakes and my sister had the clay strip. We both loved what we got. Staff is very friendly and condiments are served in individual containers for covid regulations. Everything was clean and the atmosphere is very inviting and relaxing. Prices are reasonable. Worth a trip here for breakfast and lunch

Starving Artist Resaurant was very enjoyable. Luca waited on us once we were seated and treated us like important people. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The wraps were the best that I have had from a small in town restaurant. We certainly will be back.

Still great after all these years! A varied breakfast, brunch & lunch menu with tasty selections that are unique or unusual. Try the breakfast pizza! Still serving Green Mountain Coffee too.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday. The deep covered walkway leading to the rear entrance was lit with colorful holiday lights...festive! The rear room sports some really long wooden tables...gives it a cozy rustic feel. We dined in the front room...clean, simple, comfortable. Soft holiday music was warming. Grilled chicken sandwich was tender with a nice soft roll. Crab cakes were tasty, as were the fish & chips. All dishes we enjoyed came with a pile of fries. Prices were reasonable and service was attentive and courteous. Wide selection of sandwiches, burgers, soups and seafood dishes. We've dined here for lunch in season and during the off season...haven't been disappointed. It just feels good to be there!

Excellent omelettes and good coffee. Very fair prices and very good service. Also writing and drawing on the tables with crayons is fun.

We go here all the time and after a horrible experience at the Buttered Biscuit in Bradley Beach I can only say that I wish they were open on Wednesdays! Great breakfast, friendly service and wonderful owner (Hi Arnold). Year after year both the food and service are wonderful.

Great food with a nice outdoor seating area. There are also some times that you can look into the garden next door which is just calming and adds to the atmosphere. I highly recommend the breakfast potatoes, 3 half potatoes loaded with eggs, cheese, bacon, and some bits of potatoes.

During pandemic, went here for pickup. Nice service at pickup window on Olin street. Breakfast sandwich roll is good at a good price.

I had a great experience here for lunch. I had the soup of the day which was chicken noodle and it was delicious- I felt like I was eating home made grandmas soup! Everyone in my party of 6 ordered something different and everyone was very pleased with their meals. We sat in the outdoor patio and it was a really nice environment. I would highly recommend this place and will return when I’m in the area!

Always great, thorough, fine ingredients (tho' the cheddar cheese could be much sharper!), friendly, lovely oasis setting, and right next door to a fabulous ice cream shop, Day's!! Eat there, NOW!

A cute place for breakfast and brunch! The wait staff were friendly and informative when it came to items on the menu. Everyone's food was cooked to perfection as well. I definitely recommend the breakfast burrito if you are in the mood for a savory, filling meal!

We have been going to the Starving Artist for over 15 years, and the food and service is fantastic.

Loved the atmosphere in the restaurant as well as the town of Ocean Grove. My salad was delicious and the waitress was friendly and with it!

Always a great, hearty meal. Totally recommend!

Local breakfast & lunch establishment.Old school ideas of wraps and homemade entrees.However, recently due to changes in staff, there have been many shortcuts that diminished their quality, i.e. deep frying their home fries instead if flat top cooking. Hopefully, they will find better ways to be economical.

I’d like to give a higher rating but the limited hours are killing me. Please stay open later! This town really needs more than one casual dining option.
